My name is Jim Shaffer and I have been making knives for about 3 years now. I started making knives as a hobby and it has turned into a passion for me. I have been learning from one of the greatest knife makers in the country, R. W. Wilson. Wilson has been my mentor, teacher, and friend.
Since I started making knives, my knife making skills have improved greatly. I make my knives from scratch, starting with the steel plate. Cutting and shapping it just right. Then designing the right handle for the knife, and also the case. My handles are made from serveral materials:
The handles on my knives are made from various materials. I use animal antlers, bones,and various woods. I can also make the handel in a varity of colors.
I work on my knives in my spare time in my basement. I have a small workshop there.
My knives have been displayed at many knive shows throughout the country. Tell me what kind of knife you want or give me a drawing of a knife and I will let you know if I can make it.
All of my art work and schrimsha is done by a very talented woman and friend, by the name of Kathy Bone.
